I'm asking for anyone who reads this to say a quick prayer for my grandpa Arias. He has been very ill. He has been in the hospital and seems to be recovering slowly, but needs a feeding tube for nourishment. He has been unable to swallow correctly. Basically his mind is sharp as a nail, but his body is suffering greatly. He says (in Spanish of course) that he is embarrassed to be like this, like a baby. He has truly been a "grandpa" to me. Despite the language barrier, he has shown me so much love. It is difficult to be so far away from him during this time. I'm so glad we went to see them one last time before heading out the next day!
I have many memories of both that I hold dear to my heart... with grandma Arias : comido, arroz con pollo, chicken tacos, little animal cookies, ice cream, good laughs when we couldn't understand each other, the dress-up clothes trunk, playing with all the treasures in her room...
with grandpa Arias: dancing and more dancing, his words of wisdom, showing me all his books.... I remember when he was SO strong enough to give us "horsy-rides"...
My grandpa came to America even though he did not know english or have a job. He came to pursue the American dream. He worked extremely hard, so that he could bring his family across the border from Mexico. He did not accept help from government programs, welfare... my grandma recalls a time when the local store was handing out free cheese for those in need. She asked my Abuelo if she could get some and he told her "no." He would not accept something he could not pay for. Both he and my grandma instilled a good work ethic in my dad. This is why it is so difficult to be as disabled as he is. I know God is with him and the fact that he is a believer comforts me greatly. However, I pray for his recover with all my heart!
And as you go about your day today, don't forget to cherish the ones you love!

I've never seen pictures of your Abuelo! He has always sounded like such an amazing man and patriarch of your family!
